laura,
born in Montevideo, raised in Basel, Miami, Vienna, and Zug - in the heart of Switzerland.
Her multicultural background, as well as her Swedish and Swiss roots have influenced her interest in storytelling, culture, and people. Laura’s visual language is driven by her Scandinavian affinity for light, natural beauty and simplicity. Her photographic work is an authentic reflection of her native introspection and extrospection of identity throughout space and time.
Laura views the camera as a medium that allows for a visual anthropology; the exploration of identity and purpose. She describes the act of photography as a documentation of personal truth and sense-making of the world we find ourselves in as human beings. Her approach to photography draws in ethical and interpersonal responsibilities as she compares the act of photographing similar to a séance setting; as both visible and nonvisible connect and become interwoven. Each photograph serves as an extension of herself - a direct reflection of the intimate relationship (contract) between the photographer, the subject, and the viewer.
“My camera is my tool, a mirror, a gift - my photographs are reflections and fragments of my soul. Never underestimate the power of introspection and connection to the space we find ourselves in.”
After successfully completing her bachelor’s degree in photography at Oxford Brookes University with First Class Honours, Laura has taken a leap of faith towards becoming a professional photographer and fulfilling her life-long dream of becoming an artist. In 2024, she enrolled for her (online) part-time masters in Professional Photography at Oxford Brookes University. In 2025, she became the co-host for the international photography podcast The Subconscious Photography Podcast.
Besides being open for commissions, Laura’s main work is driven by personal projects. These range from her photobook HUNGER, IN MY HEART (2022), to the Japan vending machines series digital souls (2023), to her sacred testimony: ultrasonic (2024 -). Her largest body of work is 6318 (2021-) is an ongoing long-term project directly named after the postal code of the village. As the project is changing and evolving into a photographic body of work beyond still imagery, the external and internal testimonies and written text become embedded and highlight the spirit of the heartfelt narrative.
Laura hopes to publish a photobook for 6318 in 2026; an emotional homage to the people, landscape and culture that have had a profound impact on her private and professional life. The evolution of 6318 has served as a compass in her growth as a photographer, becoming an artist, and in finding alignment with her soul.
Laura is currently based in Zürich, working full-time as an artist establishing a name for herself in the creative industry.
the Subconscious photography podcast.
In this reflective episode of the Subconscious Photography Podcast, host David Senoff is joined by photographer and artist Laura Skog, now also co-host, for a conversation that delves into the emotional, intuitive, and often subconscious dimensions of photography.
Laura shares how her work is guided by feeling rather than formula, and how light—especially natural light—acts as both subject and storyteller in her images. Her long-term project, 6318, serves as a case study in using photography to reconnect with place, family, and personal history, all through a lens of honesty and reflection.
Throughout the episode, David and Laura discuss how photography can act as an emotional anchor, how long-term projects evolve over time, and why printed photographs, physical archives, and the act of slowing down are more relevant than ever in our hyper-digital world.
